NESAWG: Querida Gloria. Fue un placer verte participar en el NESAWG Track de la Conferencia de Invierno 2023 de NOFA/Mass. Nos encantaría si pudieras compartir algunas ideas que surgieron del panel de NESAWG que trató sobre el cambio de equidad racial dentro de nuestras organizaciones.
Gloria: Yo estaba enamorada de todas esas mujeres maravillosas que estaban en el panel con ese gran conocimiento y con esa apertura para compartir porque este es el verdadero trabajo hay que hacer; con amor a la Madre Tierra que es lo que más se necesita para este trabajo.
NESAWG: Si Gloria. Definitivamente es muy importante colaborar centrados y arraigados en la Madre Tierra.
Gloria: La colaboración es muy positiva. Hablemos de la analogía de la mano. La mano tiene 5 dedos y todos son diferentes. Cada organización es diferente y tiene su especialidad. Si nosotros unimos nuestras especialidades tenemos la fuerza de una mano y podemos lograr muchas cosas. En la unión está la fuerza.
NESAWG: Para poder trabajar en forma unificada tenemos que remover barreras que nos impiden la comunicación. ¿Hay algo que te gustaría compartir en cuanto a la justicia del lenguaje?
Gloria: La interpretación simultánea y la traducción de materiales en las conferencias es indispensable porque todos tenemos derecho a tener acceso al conocimiento. La traducción es indispensable para todas las comunidades. Los Estados Unidos es un crisol de todo el mundo ; una confluencia grande de culturas y de distintas lenguas. Por ejemplo: Durante el panel de NESAWG, alguien que trabaja con las abejas llevó material traducido sobre la miel - que es algo muy importante. Ayer tuve una quemadura grande y recordé lo que había leído sobre la miel. Me puse miel tres veces y me calmó el dolor y hoy ya se me curó todo. Mira que linda que tengo mi piel restablecida- gracias a la traducción de materiales en la conferencia. Todos estos conocimientos son muy buenos y hay que compartirlos en distintos idiomas.
NESAWG: Que alegria de verte curada y de saber que la traducción te ayudo tanto.
Gloria: Habemos muchos que estamos trabajando en alimentos orgánicos y plantas medicinales, vegetales y apicultura natural. Porque la medicina occidental no es funciona para nuestra población Indigena; te arregla una cosa y te desarregla otra. Tenemos que volver a la Madre Tierra. A los tiempos de nuestros ancestros. Es estar en armonía del ser con La Madre Tierra y con los elementos de La Madre Tierra. Respetar a los elementos de La Madre Tierra para no dañarla. Y cuidar y proteger las semillas nativas que nos traen curación y sanación.
NESAWG: Hablando de sanación y armonía. ¿Cuáles serían los espacios de tu preferencia para traer transformación, armonía y sanación a una conferencia?
Gloria: Hay que hacer reuniones y conferencias afuera y no tanto en Zoom o dentro de edificios. Hay que escuchar los cantos de los pajaritos. Y escuchar también el silencio de la Madre Tierra. Hay que utilizar los espacios exteriores en vez de espacios cerrados cuando el clima lo permite. Los espacios exteriores, la naturaleza, son espacios vivos; son espacios que dan vida; nos llenan de vida, y nos sanan.
NESAWG: ¿Cómo podemos hacer la transformación de equidad racial en nuestras organizaciones y comunidades?
Gloria: Volvemos a la analogía de la mano. Todos los dedos de una mano son distintos pero todos tienen una función y un valor único y la mano no puede funcionar completamente bien sin uno de ellos. Tampoco puede funcionar bien si le ponemos barreras a algunos de los dedos. La mano completa tiene mucho poder para hacer cambios si no le ponemos barreras. De igual manera con la comunidad. La equidad racial se logra cuando no hay barreras. Sin barreras de idiomas ni de lenguaje. Sin barreras de acceso ni de oportunidades. La idea es poder hacer el sueño una realidad - sin barreras de religiones, de política, ni de idiomas. Todos nacimos de la misma forma y morimos de la misma forma. Tenemos que entender que todos somos iguales. Todos comemos, todos respiramos, todos dormimos. Este trabajo de equidad nos permite remover barreras y unirnos para tener fuerza colectiva y para hacer una transformación ecológica y económica. Hay que servir más a la comunidad que al dinero y la riqueza. El planeta y la gente están primero. Y hay que tener una conciencia global del planeta y no partidaria. Tener una conciencia pura. Y no adulterar nuestra nutrición tampoco (lo que entra en nuestra conciencia y en nuestro cuerpo); la comida que viene directo de la Madre Tierra. Conciencia pura y nutrición pura. La comida que ingerimos de los supermercados y de los fast food es la comida Frankenstein. Así lo llamo yo. Comida Frankenstein. Porque es un horror. Todo está adulterado.

Gloria Ramirez is a migrant born on the 25th of September of 1951 on Mayan Territory, in the region of Mesoamerica, now known as El Salvador in Central America. Gloria is a holistic medicine Healer with specialty in conflict resolution. She has studied in several cities around the world: Cuba, Germany, India, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico, Spain, Holland, Switzerland, and France with a long trajectory in the Defense of the Environment and Human Rights, and empowering women from different ethnicities.
NESAWG: Dear Gloria. It was a pleasure to see you participate in the NOFA/Mass Winter Conference 2023 NESAWG Track. We'd love for you to share some ideas that came out of the NESAWG panel on changing racial equity within our organizations.
Gloria: I was in love with all those wonderful women who were on the panel with that great knowledge, and with that openness to share because this is the real work that has to be done; with love for Mother Earth, which is what is most needed for this work.
NESAWG: Yes Gloria. It is definitely very important to collaborate grounded and rooted on Mother Earth.
Gloria: Collaboration is very positive. Let's talk about the hand analogy. The hand has 5 fingers and they are all different. Each organization is different and has its specialization and uniqueness. If we unite our specializations and strengths we have the strength and power of the full hand, and we can achieve many things. The strength is in unity.
NESAWG: In order to work in a unified way we have to remove barriers that prevent us from communicating. Is there anything you would like to share regarding language justice?
Gloria: Simultaneous interpretation and translation of materials at conferences is essential because we all have the right to have access to knowledge. Translation is essential for all communities. The United States is a melting pot of the whole world; a great confluence of cultures and different languages. For example: During the NESAWG panel, someone who works with bees brought translated material about honey - which is very important. Yesterday, I burned myself badly, and I remembered what I had read about honey. I put honey three times on my hand, and it calmed the pain - and today everything is cured! Look at how my beautiful skin has been restored- thanks to the translation of materials at the conference. All this knowledge is very good and must be shared in different languages.
NESAWG: What a joy to see you cured and to know that the translation helped you so much!
Gloria: There are many of us who are working on organic food and medicinal plants, vegetables and natural beekeeping. Because Western medicine is not working for our Indigenous population; it fixes one thing and messes up another. We have to go back to
Mother Earth. To the times of our Ancestors. It is about being in harmony with our being, and with Mother Earth, and with the elements of Mother Earth. We have to respect the elements of Mother Earth so as not to harm Her. And we need to take care and protect the Native seeds that bring us wellness and healing.
NESAWG: Speaking of healing and harmony. What would be the spaces of your choice to bring transformation, harmony and healing to a conference?
Gloria: You have to hold meetings and conferences outside, and not so much on Zoom or inside buildings. You have to listen to the songs of the birds. And listen to the silence of Mother Earth. Outdoor spaces should be used more instead of closed spaces when the weather allows it. Outdoor spaces, Nature, are living spaces; they are spaces that give life; they fill us with life, and they heal us.
NESAWG: How can we achieve racial equity transformation in our organizations and communities?
Gloria: We should go back to the analogy of the hand. All the fingers on a hand are different but they all have a unique function and value; and the hand cannot function fully well without one of the fingers. It also can't work well if we put barriers to some of the fingers. The full hand has a lot of power to make changes if we don't put up barriers. Likewise with the community. Racial equity is achieved when there are no barriers. No language barriers. No barriers to access or opportunities. The idea is to be able to make the dream a reality - without barriers of religions, politics, or languages. We are all born the same way and die the same way. We have to understand that we are all equal. We all eat, we all breathe, we all sleep. This equity work allows us to remove barriers and come together for collective strength, and for ecological and economic transformation. You have to serve the community more than money and wealth. The planet and the people come first. And you have to have a global awareness of the planet, and not a partisan one. You need to have a pure conscience. And you don’t want to adulterate your nutrition (what comes into your conscience and body); we need to eat food that comes directly from Mother Earth. Pure conscience and pure nutrition. The food we eat from supermarkets and fast foods is Frankenstein food. That's what I call it. Frankenstein food. Because it's horrible. Everything is adulterated.
